Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides advanced-level respiratory care to patients, diagnosing, evaluating, treating, managing, and controlling cardiopulmonary deficiencies or abnormalities as prescribed by a physician. This role also serves as a resource for CRT staff and may handle special clinical projects or assignments as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic testing procedures, including obtaining arterial gases and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Administer medications safely and evaluate their effects according to protocol.
  • Communicate patient progress with staff, physicians, and other departments.
  • Educate patients and families on health promotion, wellness, and self-care techniques.
  • Complete accurate documentation and monitor supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in quality and patient safety initiatives, identifying areas for improvement and potential safety hazards.
  • Act as a resource, consultant, and mentor to staff and patient care areas.
  • Contribute to quality improvement and research activities to enhance patient care standards.
  • Float to other departments as needed and participate in on-call duties during scheduled shifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an NBRC-approved Respiratory Therapist program from an accredited institution.
  • Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT).
  • Current license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
