Job Summary: The Licensed Respiratory Therapist assesses, implements, and evaluates respiratory care services in accordance with hospital standards and department policies to monitor and evaluate patient status.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Assess and deliver care/interventions to patients in non-critical and critical care areas, considering patient age, cultural, and psychosocial factors.
- Administer respiratory therapies, including nebulizer medication, humidity/aerosol therapy, medical gas administration, incentive spirometry, PEP therapy, pulse oximetry, chest physiotherapy, and CPR.
- Perform mechanical ventilation (invasive/non-invasive), intubation, extubation, suctioning, and bronchoscopy assistance.
- Monitor and adjust ventilator settings, documenting patient responses and clinical information accurately.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare teams and demonstrate professional judgment in dynamic situations.
- Delegate and supervise tasks to appropriate staff members as needed.
- Respond promptly to code blues, RIT/CRIT calls, and patient transports.
- Participate in mentoring new personnel and quality improvement projects.
- Maintain compliance with departmental education standards and hospital goals.
Decision Making: Exercise independent judgment in planning operations and making decisions in a complex technical field.
Working Relationships: Collaborate with patients, families, medical staff, and internal/external customers through direct interaction and communication.
Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care program.
Licensure, Registration, and Certification:
- Valid Oklahoma Provisional/Respiratory Care Practitioner License (RCP) or temporary letter to practice issued by the Oklahoma Medical Board.
- Certified/Registered Respiratory Therapist (CRT/RRT) credential through the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 2 months of hire.
Work Experience: 0-6 months of related experience.
