Job Summary
The Medical Office Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to physicians and surgeons, ensuring quality patient care and efficient office operations.
Responsibilities
- Assist in patient care, including venipuncture, EKGs, vital signs, and specimen collection.
- Organize patient flow, accompany patients to exam rooms, and assist with mobility and dressing.
- Support physicians during procedures and relay instructions to patients and families.
- Perform clerical tasks such as managing medical records, completing forms, and using the EMR system.
- Enter orders into the EMR system and prepare prescription refill requests for physician approval.
- Inventory, order, and restock medical supplies as needed.
- Set up examination rooms and sterilize instruments per hospital and infection control policies.
- Maintain logs for refrigeration, sterilization, crash carts, and point-of-care testing.
- Dispose of expired medications and supplies per institutional policies.
- Ensure a safe and compliant work environment by adhering to legal and procedural standards.
- Assist with medical chart maintenance, including filing and test result documentation.
- Schedule surgeries/procedures and prepare related documentation.
- Perform proficient phlebotomy duties as required.
- Handle appointment scheduling, patient registration, and insurance verification.
- Perform pre-certification for procedures when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant from an approved school.
- 3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
- Basic proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Effective communication skills with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant medical office or phlebotomy experience.
