Description:

Job Summary

Provide safe patient care following established standards and practices in accordance with professional and hospital guidelines. Collaborate with internal and external customers, including patients, families, physicians, employees, and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordinating patient care by supporting the RN, collaborating with health team members, and participating in performance improvement activities.
  • Maintain asepsis, perform scrubbing duties, and communicate patient information to appropriate personnel.
  • Account for all equipment and supplies used during patient care.
  • Act as a clinical preceptor for scrubbing, following orientation guidelines in collaboration with the patient care coordinator and educator/Clinical Nurse Specialist.
  • Ensure cleanliness of the unit and proper care of equipment used during surgical cases.
  • Support teamwork, resolve problems, and meet customer service quality standards.

Work Environment

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting/moving patients.
  • Intermittent lifting, moving, or carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and communicable diseases.
  • Moderate to high noise levels and stressful conditions, including deadlines and irregular hours.
  • May require on-call duties, weekend, or holiday work based on department needs.

Required Education

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist educational program or an approved U.S. Military Surgical Technology training program.

Required Certifications & Licensure

  • NBSTSA-Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year of clinical operating room experience.

Additional Information

  • Must meet one of the following requirements to practice surgical technology: completion of an accredited program, completion of U.S. Military training, prior employment in surgical technology before January 1, 2008, or service in the federal government performing related duties.
