Job Summary
As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the RN provides professional nursing care to patients through the application of the nursing process. This includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care to achieve optimal outcomes.
Essential Functions
- Utilize evidence-based practices in patient care.
- Conduct patient assessments through interviews, observations, and physical exams.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Evaluate and document patient progress toward goals, modifying care plans as needed.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation, including patient charts and event reports.
- Maintain professional accountability and pursue ongoing self-development.
- Demonstrate technical proficiency with medical equipment and troubleshoot issues as needed.
- Promote patient and staff safety, including proper use of lift equipment.
- Obtain and handle lab specimens and perform bedside lab testing per protocols.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary care and collaborate with team members to meet patient needs.
- Prioritize tasks based on patient condition and unit demands.
- Provide clear, goal-focused shift reports and advocate for patients when necessary.
- Adapt teaching strategies to meet the age-specific needs and comprehension levels of patients and families.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant nursing experience.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN).
- Active Illinois RN license in good standing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association).
- Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, email, web browsing).
- Critical thinking and independent decision-making skills.
- Multicultural sensitivity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
