Job Summary
The Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides advanced respiratory care to patients, diagnosing, evaluating, treating, and managing cardiopulmonary deficiencies. This role serves as a resource for CRT staff and may involve special clinical projects as assigned by leadership.
Responsibilities
- Perform, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic testing procedures, including obtaining arterial gases.
- Administer medications safely and evaluate their effects per protocol.
- Communicate patient progress with staff, physicians, and other departments.
- Educate patients and families on health promotion, wellness, and self-care techniques.
- Complete accurate documentation and monitor supplies and equipment.
- Participate in quality and patient safety initiatives, identifying areas for improvement.
- Act as a resource, consultant, and mentor to staff within the department.
- Contribute to quality improvement and research activities to enhance patient care standards.
- Float to other departments as needed and participate in on-call duties during scheduled shifts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an NBRC-approved Respiratory Therapist program from an accredited institution.
- Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT).
- Current license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
